Legal
Terms of Service
Effective date: 2 July 2026
These terms are a legal agreement between you and Betony (“Betony”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. Please read them alongside our Privacy & GDPR information.
1. About Betony
Betony is a documentation aid for healthcare professionals. It turns a spoken or typed summary of a clinical session into a structured draft note. It is a tool to help you write your records faster — it is not a source of clinical advice, a diagnostic system, or a medical device, and it does not make clinical decisions.
2. Pilot / early-access status
The service is currently provided on an early-access (pilot) basis. Features may change, break, or be withdrawn, and the service may be unavailable at times. During the pilot you must use fictional or fully anonymised information only — do not enter real patient-identifiable data until we confirm the service is cleared for live clinical use.
3. Who may use it
You must be at least 18 years old and a practising or trainee healthcare professional (or acting with the authority of one) to use the service. You are responsible for ensuring your use complies with the rules of your professional regulator and employer.
4. Your clinical responsibility
Betony produces drafts. You are the clinician: you must read, check, and correct every note before relying on it or entering it into a patient record. You remain solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and clinical appropriateness of your records and for any decisions you make. Betony is not a substitute for your professional judgement and must not be used as one.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of any regulation;
- enter real patient-identifiable data during the pilot, or any data you are not authorised to process;
- attempt to reverse engineer, copy, resell, or build a competing product from the service;
- interfere with or disrupt the service, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it.
6. Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@alliedscribe.co.uk if you believe your account has been misused.
7. Plans, fees and billing
We offer a free plan (subject to monthly usage limits) and paid plans. Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment provider; card details are handled by them, not stored by us. Fees are stated on our pricing page and may change on notice. You can cancel at any time; unless required by law, fees already paid are non-refundable.
8. Intellectual property
The service, its software, design, and all trade marks and branding are owned by Betonyand are protected by law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service while these terms are in force. You keep all rights in the content you enter and the notes you generate (“Your Content”); you grant us only the limited licence needed to process Your Content in order to provide the service to you.
9. Data protection
How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy & GDPR information. Where you process personal data through the service, you act as the data controller and we act as your processor under a written data processing agreement, available to paying customers. Data is hosted in the United Kingdom.
10. Availability and changes
The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of it. We may update these terms; if we make material changes we will take reasonable steps to let you know, and continued use means you accept the updated terms.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, or loss arising from clinical decisions or record-keeping, and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period (or £100 if you are on the free plan).
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms or if we reasonably need to. On termination your right to use the service ends; we will handle your data in line with our privacy information.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that you may also bring proceedings in the part of the UK where you live.
